Step up security with an interlock security booth
Also known as an airlock or access control vestibule; an interlock security booth system is a security device designed to monitor and control two interlocking doors. What makes this system so effective is that the two doors can never be opened simultaneously. It is possible to open either of the doors at each end but only if the other one is closed and locked.
Between the two doors is a small, secure space designed to admit just one person at a time. These access control booths are a very effective way to separate a non-secured area from a secured area. They provide some of the highest levels of security with relative ease and are popular in high-value or critical security areas such as vaults, jewellery stores, critical research labs, security control rooms, cash handling depots and sensitive data processing areas.
Why are interlock security booths sometimes called mantraps?
You may have heard of an interlock access control system referred to as a mantrap, which is a somewhat misleading term. While a person can be prevented from exiting the cubicle or security booth once they’ve entered it, mantraps are not designed to keep them locked in place indefinitely.
They’re simply a two-part entry system that delays giving someone full access to an area until some condition is met. This can be completing a biometric scan, passing a screening from a metal detector, or simply waiting until the first door of the cubicle has fully closed behind you (which also allows security cameras time to capture your likeness).
Why invest in an interlock security booth?
There are many places where interlocking access control systems would be useful – from high-risk areas to the shared space between two hospital operating rooms. These high-security entrances offer the best method of prevention when it comes to protecting valuable assets throughout a site, with revolving doors and portals proven to prevent intrusion.
Portals and security booths both share the ability to ease the pressure on employees by eliminating tailgating or piggybacking, as well as providing a way to automate the process of controlling access to critical areas. When combined with biometrics and other access control devices Gunnebo offers, security booths and portals provide the means to support accurate metrics collection, the reduction of risk and liability and regulatory compliance.
