Eradicating Hunger: Transforming Lives, One Pallet at a Time

Some of our team members headed to charity organization, Foodbank, Monday the 22nd of May 2023, to assist in picking and packing grocery items for charities and schools in need. Foodbank are a not-for-profit charity, which are a warehousing facility for smaller charitable organizations; working with 2,625 frontline charities and 2,890 school breakfast programs to get over 87.9 million meals out to those who could use a hand every year. Receiving large donations from big name corporations such as items with old or incorrect packaging, over produced, nearing expiry or not deemed “fit for shelf” are donated to Foodbank, where it is then forwarded. Not only does this help to feed people doing it tough, it is also a great initiative to reducing landfill and food waste.

The team were given pick lists of items that needed to be collected from various locations in the large warehouse, stacked onto pallets, then wrapped and shipped off to those supported charities and schools. Between the four team members, 15 pallets of groceries were packed in a 4-hour time slot, equating to just over 4,250kg worth of goods moved – an impressive effort!

Managing Director of Gunnebo Australia, Michael Brookes, said “Foodbank do some extraordinary work for families across NSW and ACT here in Australia. Putting food on the table for some is becoming more and more difficult as time progresses, so being able to rally our team together to contribute to giving back and assisting this great organization in their daily operations was extremely rewarding.”

With families feeling the pinch of the cost of living around the globe, organizations such as Foodbank help to fight hunger and reduce food wastage. With Gunnebo both on a local and global level in support of helping communities and reducing our environmental footprint, we are pleased our team were able to out there, represent our brand values and give back to the local community.
