According to TimeTrade, it’s not retail. Nearly three in four consumers plan to continue shopping in store as much as they have. Why? Because the in-store experience is still critical – as long as the sector meets them halfway.
Life in a concierge economy
Brands like Uber, Airbnb and Netflix are all part of the concierge economy, defined as services that provide instant information and – in doing so – disrupt a traditional product.
85 per cent of shoppers would leave a store if they were not greeted with immediate help in a dressing room, according to TimeTrade’s report.
People prefer these offerings because they’re more convenient, but also because they’re associated with lower costs and an alternative to traditional goods.
Regardless, conventional retail prevails. If an item is available online or in a nearby store, 71 per cent of consumers prefer to buy it in store. Shoppers like to touch, feel and examine things before making a purchase.
Store owners need to know, however, that consumers aren’t unwilling to walk away. A staggering 85 per cent of shoppers would leave a store if they were not greeted with immediate help in a dressing room. The majority of customers also don’t feel that big brand stores aren’t providing good enough service. If retailers want to survive in this concierge economy, they’ll need to step up their service to meet a demanding clientele.
